I cannot figure out how to change the defaults so I don't have to keep changing the /etc/icefloor.sh file whenevery I hit the update rules button. Changing the copy in the Icefloor.app bundle does not seem to affect this behavior. I presume that this patch will have to be done again when updating to new system software.Īlso, Icefloor repeatedly replaces the icefloor.sh script when loading rules, so the script has to have the 'sleep 5' line replaced with every rules update (maybe not with the 'test' button). I hate modifying any /System files, but can't find a better way right now. Making both changes has now allowed the ruleset to survive multiple system reboots. Making either change alone did not fix the problem. By enabling system pfctl with -e flag, and then forcing the icefloor script to wait 5 before calling pfctl again, the system action then gets overwritten by icefloor, rather than the other way around. I presume that what is happening is that icefloor is launching pfctl, and then the system is also launching it and turning pf off. I also had to change the file /System/LaunchDaemons/ by adding the '-e' flag to program arguments like this: I move the "sleep 5" line to just after the 'ipconfig waitall' line (I presume that the important thing here is to make sure it sleeps before the '/sbin/pfctl -ef /etc/pf.conf' line). Yeah, it turns out that just sleeping at the end of the icefloor.sh script doesn't really do anything. but I don't like having the internet down while there's someone else home.ĭoes anyone have any advice? Or perhaps a "better" way for me to find a solution? I work in a Windows shop, so I don't get as much exposure to Mac or Linux as I like.įYI: This is for my home config. My day-job is programming, not infrastructure (although I think I have a good handle on it). Of course, there's a chance that something else is the problem. Question is: What is it, or how can I find out what it is? I removed the extended attribute for Apple's quarantine from icefloor.sh and icefloor_ef.sh).īest I can tell, there's something else loading after IceFloor that's disabling PF. At this exact moment, the PF Firewall is disabled and the IceFloor Ruleset is enabled, but that might just be some recent tests I've been running (ie. If I launch the IceFloor GUI, I generally see "PF Firewall: Disabled IceFloor Ruleset: Disabled Boot Scripts Installed IceFloor Mode: Advanced" in the status bar. When this happens, the Mac Mini can get online, but it won't route requests for the other clients (Macs, iPhones, iPads, Windows PC, etc.). I'm running into an issue where launchd launches /etc/icefloor.sh at boot (tested via syslog output in the script), but PF is disabled when the system has finished booting. I have been putting up with it for a while (probably months now), but I'm still bothered that my configuration is not "self-sufficient" at the moment. It's configured to turn on automatically when power has been supplied, but NAT doesn't work without some user-intervention on my part. I have it plugged into an UPS, so it can shut down safely and such. as long as I never shut down the Mac Mini. recognizing that it uses PF, which is supposed to replace IPFW at some point (from what I understand). Shortly after (as in, perhaps less than a day), I stumbled on IceFloor, downloaded it, installed it, and configured it to match what I needed. When I was first setting up the NAT, I was using the IPFW method of routing requests. It's also hosting other services, such as DNS, LDAP, etc. The Mac Mini is hosting DHCP via the MacPorts dhcpd server. Their router supplies IPs on the 192.168.77.0 subnet, and my Mac Mini supplies IPs on the 192.168.84.0 subnet. I'm using the Mac Mini to host services as the IPTV service provided by my ISP doesn't work if their router doesn't supply the IPs. I have it configured in such a way that the Mac Mini is a NAT for traffic from en0 to vlan0 (linked via en0, routed by the RVS4000). I have a Mac Mini (late 2012 model) set up as a server w/ Mac OS X Server (Mountain Lion v10.8.4), wired to a Time Capsule with routing disabled, which is wired to a RVS4000 router. Stonehearth's clock could also use a faster speed than just 2x, especially in the early hours of the game when you've only got a handful of workers and want to complete basic building projects quickly. Some stood idle, gazing thoughtfully into space as skeletons hacked them to death, others fled, and some didn't bother to respond to the call to arms and continued mining or farming. My first few fights went fine, but during a later invasion my villagers seemed unresponsive. As in Fantasia, once set to work, my automatons never stopped.ĭefending the village, in which you create war parties and direct them to a specific location to repel invaders, was also dicey. By default adult-only content is blocked on the. All files and images marked as 'Adult-only' are now blocked from viewing for non-members, and those members who have specifically chosen to block the content. Instead I was forced to try to cancel the mining operation with the 'remove task' brush, which didn't seem to work. This is something I have been meaning to do for a while now and today I have finally gotten around to doing it. More kingdoms are always good, so try the Murasama Kingdom, the Nordlings and the goblin kingdom. Everyone uses Extra map options and the Fisher mod for good reasons. Must-have mods: those depend on your playstyle. When I wanted them to stop mining to work on something else, however, there was no way to directly communicate that to them. First thing first: there is an enhanced reembark mod It lets you take 5 hearthlings instead of 3, plus 15 items. I'd designated a large area to be mined, and my workers got busy digging. While your craftsmen have a to-do list, it would be nice if the rest of your workers had a little priority queue, too. There's also plenty of room for improvement. Stonehearth's 10th alpha shows a lot of promise, which is important for a Kickstarter campaign that netted over $700,000. You'll be visited by traveling merchants and survivalists who will buy and sell goods, and you can construct default buildings or design your own to serve as residences and dining halls. Beginning with only a handful of settlers, you designate a carpenter, animal trapper, warrior, or worker, and as they complete tasks they level up and can become shepherds, blacksmiths, farmers, masons, and so on. I put in a morning's work on Stonehearth, starting by searching the randomized map for a spot with a good amount of resources and wildlife, and founding a town there. I think they just went down the list of popular Steam tags and checked all the boxes. But Stonehearth is attempting to dabble in a number of different genres, with elements of city and civilization building, strategy, simulation, resource management, and RPG trappings, all in a procedurally generated fantasy sandbox setting. Back to Stonehearth! Yes, it looks very Minecrafty indeed, as every game with blocks does, and the developers have stated that Dwarf Fortress was a major inspiration as well. While the selection is tiny, each hunter is different from one another as they each have their unique set of abilities and skills, and there’s a slew of RPG systems to tinker with to make each hunter fit your desired playstyle. Before going out an epic intergalactic adventure, a relic hunter must be chosen from a small selection of characters (the alpha build has 4 hunters in total: Ace, Jimmy, Pinkyy, and Raff.) In this online co-op shooter that supports up to 4-player heroic gangs, players can choose to play solo or join other players to battle it out against the Duncan clan. Ultimately, being a mighty duck-butt-kicking force not to be reckoned with is what Relic Hunters Legend is all about. As a relic hunter, you’ll end up uncovering the mysteries of the past, learn more about the colorful cast of characters in your journey, and strive to save the galaxy altogether before Duke Duncan quacks it all up. Seven joins a group of relic hunters who all want to put a stop to the evil villain, Duke Duncan - a duck that has literally stolen the past. Unfortunate, I know, but essentially the premise is that there’s a time-traveler, Seven, who suffers from amnesia. The alpha build does not grant access to the campaign for Relic Hunters Legend. Playing with a couple of pals is undoubtedly where the Relic Hunters Legend alpha build shines brightest, and its cartoony world is fun, but lack of content found within may turn away players from wanting to be a true relic hunter legend. In the current state it’s in, multiple features, like levels and even characters, are under development, but still, all the core game mechanics are here to at least get a good gist of what the full game will offer. Now, though, the title is now in alpha, bringing a slew of new content for me, and other players, to check out. This is what I had in mind at when I first played a bit of Rogue Snail’s upcoming follow-up co-op shooter, Relic Hunters Legend. Don’t get me wrong, I do love what they offer, but sometimes, I want to play an indie game from a small, tight-knit team that I can tell was made with a lot of love and passion. Lastly, this is a beautiful game that is wonderfully optimized on the PC. The handling in this game feels a lot closer to Grid 1 while still being an evolution of the series. The ovalised top section is comfortable, a nice width and length that gives lots of support, although in use and because of the forward sweep I found myself simply resting my hands on top rather than actually gripping. It has pretty much come down to the FSA or a trusty Shimano Ultegra crankset, and since the FSA is a good bit lighter, I would prefer to go with the FSA as long as the reviews are favorable. > 9 ways to make your bike more comfortable To find the technical information you’re looking for, simply click on the relevant category below. It could simply be that I'm not used to this position, but having tried lots of different styles and shapes of handlebars, this didn't seem very ergonomic. While riding and moving from the hoods to the forward-sweeping flats, the amount of rotation in the hands is quite substantial, and after prolonged use I found it quite uncomfortable. That makes them quite long, and longer than most other similar handlebars if you are changing from a bar with shorter reach, this will have a small effect on handling. The reach measurement also changes for each of the three bar sizes – FSA lists it as 80mm, but measured from the centre of the stem it increases from 87.4mm for the 42cm bar, to 88.6mm and 89.8mm for the 44 and 46cm bars respectively. "Cloudburst" is essentially a road movie about Stella (Dukakis) and Dot (Fricker), a lesbian couple in Maine who after more than thirty years together, risk being separated by Dot's granddaughter who is oblivious to the couple's relationship. The film could likely be the gay film to crossover to mainstream success. The screen adaptation has been traveling the film festival circuit in Canada since late last year and has picked up awards from Vancouver to Montreal, and stateside in San Francisco, San Diego and Palm Springs. Originally a stage play, "Cloudburst" won the 2011 Merritt Award, Nova Scotia's theatre award for Best New Play. With cloud bursting, enterprises can auto-deploy additional computing resources on the public cloud, ensuring that resources in the private cloud remain available and undeterred during a surge in application demand. If having Oscar winners Olympia Dukakis ("Moonstruck") and Brenda Fricker ("My Left Foot") play a lesbian couple of thirty years is not enough to pique your interest in the new comedy from Thom Fitzgerald ("3 Needles," "The Hanging Garden"), how about watching Olympia Dukakis butch-swearing her way on a trip to Canada to get legally married? Proactive planning is arguably one of the best approaches to achieving unwavering IT performance. But NASA decided to go with Amazon Web Services (AWS) instead and achieved the same thing for $7,000 in under six days. When faced with the acute challenge of processing petabyte-scale data, NASA had to contemplate the possibility of waiting for 100 days to get the refined data, which meant a $200,000 bill using their on-premise data center. NASA’s Orbiting Carbon Observatory 2 (OCO-2) satellite is a living testimony of the same. And as IT environments continue to transform and become more sophisticated, the ability to outsource cloud services may become more and more useful, if not necessary. Keeping supply and demand continually balanced is no mean feat. This eliminates the need for costly procurement of resources to meet temporary demand. Based on changes in capacity needs, you can set parameters to automate critical tasks, such as load balancing and scaling. Having a service provider manage a hybrid cloud for you goes a long way in helping you call the shots on expanding and recalling services. They argue back and forth for a while and eventually settle on a really nice hybrid solution. The enthusiasts want to run on the cloud. "The conservative side advocates keeping core business processes inside of the firewall. According to AWS evangelist Jeff Barr, cloud bursting is defined as an application-hosting model that combines pre-existing corporate infrastructure with pay-as-you-go cloud infrastructure to create scalable cloud computing capacity. Overall, cloud bursting enables businesses to obtain the right amount of cloud required to meet demand at times of above-capacity demand. This can all be done while minimising operational disruption to the wider business. For example, in some industries like software engineering, processing burdens can become hugely costly, like when running virtual machines (VMs) to test a given application’s function or its ability to withstand its own traffic.Ĭloud bursting, in this instance, can allow the software engineering business to shift its basic applications to a private cloud where the processing demands won’t exceed the capacity, while VMs can be spun up for a short time in the public cloud. Meeting traffic demands is one of the main functions of cloud bursting but it has other purposes too. The economic benefits of the model will depend on each business, but in most cases, it won’t make financial sense for a delivery app to pay large sums for the capacity they will rarely need between the hours of 11pm and 11am, for example.
